MAKING OF CONTEMPORARY INSTRUMENTS AND BOWS

Sibylle Ruppert
violin maker
"I completed a three year course at the Welsh School of Violin Making and
Repair in 1983 with a violin evaluated by Wolf Saunders and Charles
Beare.
In the following 4 years I worked for Gerriet Groth in Wiesbaden and Martin
Koch Löbner near Tübingen ,Germany.
Having emigrated with violin maker Gregory Walke to his native Canada,
we opened our workshop in 1988 in Paisley, Ontario.
I have worked for city shops and expanded my experience over the years
by taking courses in restoration techniques and acoustics.
Lately I divide my time between servicing string instruments in the region
and making new instruments. As active amateur cellist I am drawn to cello
making, have produced almost 40 cellos, while observing an equal number
created by my partner Gregory Walke.
I track the development of my instruments in the hands of my customers
wherever possible and seek the feed back of accomplished players."
